Our Curriculum
For our teaching programme we have adopted the British National
Curriculum which provides for a child centred, challenging and
balanced learning environment for our pupils. The programme caters
for the individual needs of all pupils allowing stimulation of the
child's interests and learning capabilities so they can realise
their full potential. In addition we offer tuition of a modern
foreign language, the choice presently being French or Chinese with
the option of Khmer for Cambodian nationals.
This is all provided in a secure and safe environment in which
we care first and foremost about your children and their
educational progress.
The professionally designed programme of study with its built-in
regular assessment steps using the British National Curriculum
prepares children with the academic and social skills for their
next school year and for them to move on without difficulty should
the parents' employment take them to another part of Cambodia or to
another country.
Key Stages 1, 2 & 3
The structure of the British National Curriculum as used in our
international school is sub-divided in Key Stages which relate to
the classes as shown:
Table: Key Stage sub-divisions
| Stage |
Class |
Average age |
| Foundation |
Reception 1, 2 |
3-4, 4-5 |
Curriculum for Foundation Classes - Reception 1 & 2
Cross-curricular topics form the basis of the tuition planning
for children in these classes that are based on themes relating to
the subjects which will be taught separately later on in Key Stages
1 & 2. The themes are designed to encourage interest and
develop the child's natural curiosity in order to build the
foundation for understanding needed for their further
development.
At this level the teacher introduces Maths and Literacy as the
first two separate subjects which are then taught daily from this
level onwards.
Particular attention is given at all times and in all activities
to the creative, personal, social and emotional development of the
young children in our care.

Curriculum in Key Stages 1 & 2
A key part of the tuition is the teaching of Topics that are
structured in a cross-curricular programme that stimulates interest
and understanding of important subjects which affect our lives or
are an essential part of the world in which we live.
Literacy and Maths are taught daily to ensure children's
reading, writing and comprehension as well as numeracy becomes
thoroughly developed. All other compulsory and additional subjects
are covered in the weekly tuition schedule.
In particular, we teach ICT skills, the understanding of which
has become increasingly important in support of children's
communication, listening and learning skills using different media.
In further support of children's reading and comprehension we use
the renowned Oxford Reading Tree development scheme in class as
well as for reading at home with parents.
On most days PE is provided for all and basic martial arts
training is available to those who are interested. Swimming lessons
are not part of the main curriculum but are important for a child's
physical and social development. Parents are advised to enrol their
children in this optional activity unless there is a specific
impediment to prevent their taking part.
